The
Cavern Photography of
Ansel Adams
The Original Carlsbad Caverns Visitor Center, by Ansel
Adams
Ansel
Adams, one of the most important American photographers of
the 20th Century, photographed at the caverns on two
separate occasions. 25 of his photographs from 1941
depicting the caverns have been in storage at the National
Park Service’s archives.
These important photographs have never before been
displayed for the public’s enjoyment. They will form
part of the core exhibit at the park, along with other
early photos by lesser-known artists. High-quality
reproductions of the photographs will be included in the
traveling exhibit.
Part of the funds raised for this project will go toward
professional conservation of these photographs, which have
sustained damage over the years.
