Carlsbad
Caverns and Beyond
Thousands
of people come from all over the world every year to
photograph Carlsbad Caverns’ wonders.
“Underground Visions” will feature some of the
best cave photographers working today.
The
National Park Service’s art collection includes
paintings by important artists who worked at the park as
part of Roosevelt’s New Deal Arts Program. After
cleaning and conservation, these significant works of art
will be put on display for the first time in over 25 years.
The exhibit will include examples of how the caverns have
been depicted in the art of the travel poster and other
graphic artforms from the early part of this century.
“Underground Visions” will feature works by
contemporary artists working in a variety of media. Many of
these artists are also cavers, who bring their uniquely
intimate relationship with the caverns into their
imagery.
